We geek out on technology, and the programming behind Bear Spray Shack validates that every canister rented will be un-sprayed, at full volume, and safe for redistribution.

Our Shacks contain some awesome technology, but we don’t want to bore you with all the nitty-gritty details. What you need to know is that each canister passes multiple verification checks before it’s allowed to be re-rented. If a safety check fails, we put the canister into the reject pile, and it won’t see the light of day again.

Our Bear Spray Shacks do this for every canister, every time, without room for human error like being distracted by the latest TikTok trend. (Our kiosks prefer Instagram, keep them happy by tagging #dontskipthebs)

We’re committed to reducing the number of thousands of canisters that end up in landfill every year.

Walk-Up Rentals

Bear Spray Shack rental machines are open 24 hours and completely automated so you’re in control. Just follow the on-screen instructions, and you’ll have your bear spray in two shakes of a bear’s tail.

After your bear spray is dispensed, you’ll receive an email receipt that contains your return information.

Your phone number and email address is required during rental, but it is only used to contact you about your rental if needed. We do not use or sell your information for marketing of any kind.

Accepted payment types are: Visa, Amex, Discover, Mastercard, Samsung Pay, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. Cash and check is not accepted.

Walk-ups rentals are subject to inventory.

Returns

Multiple 24/7Shack locations mean returning your can of BS has never been easier. Returns can be made to any Bear Spray Shack location in our network. Just follow the on-screen instructions, and it will walk you through the return process.

  • Orange safety clip must be installed properly on the canister for your return to be accepted
  • Place the can into the kiosk and the technology fairies will determine whether your BS has been used or is defective in any way
  • If anything in the validation process reads as funky, or just plain suspect, that canister is removed from the rental pool and flagged for inspection–which may take up to 14 days.
  • If a can is scanned as bad or sprayed, it is retired and your card on file will be automatically charged.
  • As long as the BS you rented is returned in its full former glory, your card won’t be charged damage or spray fees.

*Any late returns will be charged $7/day/canister up to the max amount. Your entire transaction including rental costs and fees will never total more than $60 + tax per canister.

Important legal stuff that might make you yawn:

  1. ALL rentals will require a government issued ID showing that the renter is 18 years of age or older. We take user and public safety very seriously, so there will be NO EXCEPTIONS to this requirement. No ID, no rental.
    Accepted forms of identification: US and Canadian Driver’ Licenses, US State IDs, Canadian Provincial IDs, US Military IDs, Passports, or Passport Cards.
  2. All renters will be required to agree to the terms and conditions set out in our Liability Waiver and Rental Agreement. You will get a chance to review them at time of online reservation or at the kiosk. Or if you need something to read while you’re hitting the outhouse, check out our waiver online.
