Unpack the Shack

We geek out on technology, and the programming behind Bear Spray Shack validates that every canister rented will be un-sprayed, at full volume, and safe for redistribution.

We don’t want to bore you with all the nitty-gritty details, but our Shacks contain some awesome technology with cool sounding buzz words like “Machine Vision Algorithms”, “Edge Computing”, and “Proprietary Technology”. What that all means to you is that each canister needs to pass six different checks before it’s allowed to be re-rented. If a safety check fails, we put the canister into the reject pile, and it won’t see the light of day again.

Our Bear Spray Shacks do this for every canister, every time, without room for human error like being distracted by the latest TikTok trend. (Our kiosks prefer Instagram, keep them happy by tagging #dontskipthebs)

We’re committed to reducing the number of thousands of canisters that end up in landfill every year. Anything that can’t be reused gets properly and safely recycled.

Returns

Multiple 24/7Shack locations mean returning your can of BS has never been easier. It doesn’t matter if you’re out exploring nature from dusk to dawn, you can conveniently return your can of BS to any location at any time.

Important return instructions:

  • Make sure the can is clean and free of any extra items (string, carabiners, etc)
  • Orange safety clip must be installed properly on the canister or the kiosk will not accept your return
  • Place the can into the kiosk and the technology fairies will determine whether your BS has been used, majorly damaged, or defective in any way and sort it throughthe Shackfor future use, inspection, or recycling.
  • If anything reads funky, or just plain suspect, that canister is removed from the rental pool and flagged for inspection–which may take up to 14 days. If a can is scanned as bad it is recycled and your card on file will be automatically charged.
  • As long as the BS you rented is returned in its full former glory, your card won’t be charged damage or spray fees.

*Any late returns will be charged $7/day/canister up to the max amount. Your entire transaction including rental costs and fees will never total more than $60 (+tax) per canister.

Online Rentals

For the practical, precise humans that are uber-responsible. The salt-of-the-earth, use- to-ordering-ahead types of ‘outdoorsy’ people.

When reserving online, you will select your rental dates and pick-up location. Rentals must be picked up at their reserved location but can be returned to any one of our 24-hour outdoor Shacks.

For the free-spirited and spontaneous ‘outdoorsy’ people who fly by the seat of their pants, answer when nature calls them unexpectedly, and don’t take life too seriously (unless in this case, it’s yours).

We do not accept cash or check at our kiosks. We do accept Samsung Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Visa, Amex, Discover, and Mastercard.

Walk-ups rentals are subject to inventory that hasn’t been reserved by online reservations. We recommend you rent ahead for guaranteed BS.

Rent Bear Spray

Important legal stuff that might make you yawn:

  1. ALL rentals will require a government issued ID showing that the renter is 18 years of age or older. We take user and public safety very seriously, so there will be NO EXCEPTIONS to this requirement. No ID, no rental.
    Accepted forms of identification: US and Canadian Driver’ Licenses, US State IDs, Canadian Provincial IDs, US Military IDs, Passports, or Passport Cards.
  2. All renters will be required to agree to the terms and conditions set out in our Liability Waiver and Rental Agreement. You will get a chance to review them at time of online reservation or at the kiosk. Or if you need something to read while you’re hitting the outhouse, check out our waiver online.
